Communications for Government Agencies
This interactive workshop, designed for communications and engagement professionals, will explore the relationship between communications and community engagement, how this relationship has evolved over time, and what it means for government representatives. Drawing on best practices research and professional experiences of success and failure, a community engagement expert will provide an overview of engagement fundamentals, highlighting methods that promote equity and undermine apathy. Small group activities based on real-world examples will be sprinkled throughout the session to encourage participants to apply these skills.

Instructor Bio: For the past decade, Bronlea has developed creative, practical communication strategies for government agencies in the Pacific Northwest. She is skilled at providing strategic communication direction for large-scale, politically sensitive projects and issues, managing crisis communications efforts, and developing and facilitating social media and crisis communication training.
Bronlea served as a key spokesperson and public information officer during local and regional crises. She has developed style and branding guides for local agencies as well as created eye-catching documents and infographics for a wide variety of topics.
As a FEMA/DHS certified instructor, Bronlea teaches social media, crisis communication, PIO, HSEEP, and flooding hazard awareness courses nationwide for the National Disaster Preparedness Training Center, Argonne National Laboratory, and FEMA's Emergency Management Institute.
Bronlea holds a M.Ed. in Adult Education from Eastern Washington University.
